1. Project Background

The Sulige Gas Field is a key tight gas development base in China, characterized by complex geological conditions in the Shihezi Formation: high abrasiveness, hard interbedded sandstone and mudstone, and frequent formation heterogeneity. These challenges have long plagued drilling operations, leading to low ROP, short bit service life, and frequent tripping, which significantly increase drilling costs and cycle time.

In this project, the customer (Changqing Oilfield 40695 Drilling Crew) was tasked with drilling the 8-1/2" (215.9mm) interval of Well Su 76-5-31SX, targeting the Shihezi Formation. The primary objectives were to:

Improve the average ROP in the hard, abrasive formation

Reduce the number of bit trips to cut operational costs

Ensure stable drilling performance to meet the well construction schedule
